One area I’m keeping a close eye on for Exponential Tech Investor readers is 3D bioprinting.

This involves using 3D printing technology to producing human tissue, cartilage, muscle… even bone.

The picture below is of a human ear that’s been printed with a biodegradable plastic “scaffolding.”

This revolutionary technique allows blood to flow and keep the ear “alive” for weeks before it is attached to a human patient.

It won’t be long before companies can print and maintain an inventory of “human” body parts ready for implantation.

Just think of what that could mean for accident survivors.

But it doesn’t end there…

Earlier this year, a Japanese company, Cyfuse Biomedical, released a 3D bioprinter that can print human tissues and organs from living cells.

And it prints them without any “scaffolding.”

U.S. company Organovo (ONVO), which went public in 2011, does something similar.
